Hey all!

I just happened to come across this today. Apparently about a year and a half ago the TV show 'Most Haunted' offered a downloadable application for cell phones which supposedly provides you with a program that functions as an EMF detector. Right off the bat, I have questions about how well an EMF emitting cell phone could be used as an EMF detector...but apparently this application works by measuring variations in data transmission times to and from your mobile phone, which it takes from fluctuations in the local electromagnetic field.

I never watched 'Most Haunted' so I never heard about it, and all of the links I've found online are now dead links. I'm just curious and would be interested in comparing this 'application' to a few actual EMF detectors. I'm just wondering if this was just a silly stunt by the paranormal media folks or if there is such a program.

Please share your thoughts.
Thank!
_mike

This pretty much tells you it doesn't work.
The Ghost Detector will be connected to the network, and you may incur time or data charges depending on your carrier and what type of billing plan you are on. The Ghost Detector application is intended for entertainment purposes only and provides a measurement of variations in the electro-magnetic field generated by the transmission of the phone signal to the end user's cell phone. Such variations occur in the normal course of signal transmission and should not be considered accurate measurements of physical, scientific or paranormal data.

lol. That's hilarious.

Somebody sends a text message and suddenly the entire area is filled with paranormal activity.

Great info. Where'd you find that? My google searching is apparently far inferior to yours!
Thanks!

"Hello, Ghost Haunting Hotline, what type of haunt would you like today? I reccomend the residual or poltergeist." Ugly can probably name 2,600,600,600,130 sites right off the bat.

your welcome, mike. If a place had a high emf reading, wouldnt your cellphone screen become distorted? It would be like putting a magnet up to your computer screen.

rofl. looks like Paranormal State is doing this now...

NEW YORK: AETN International's first iPhone application, The Paranormal State EMF Reader, can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes Store by users in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The free application supports the Paranormal State series by converting iPhones and iPod Touch devices into simulated "EMF readers" that pick up fluctuations in electromagnetic fields. In addition to an EMF reader, the application includes the option to read an article that teaches users about electromagnetic fields and what they mean, along with a customizable postcard that contains links to the iTunes application store and to AETV.com that users can forward to friends.

"Thanks to this free application, anyone can become a paranormal investigator and detect electromagnetic fields around them," said Fabienne Fourquet, the director of international digital media for AETN International. "Users can also switch to manual mode on their iPhone or iPod Touch and scare their friends by faking paranormal activity. The application has already been downloaded by a large number of fans in the U.S., and has received rave reviews. We are thrilled to bring the Paranormal State app. to international viewers of the series."

I love how a director for AETN can feel confident in promoting their paranormal tv program by teaching newbs how to fake paranormal activity.
They sure got the smarts over there at A&E!

Finally? FINALLY? *remebers other posts* Yeah, thats how i would describe it. If you have a real emf reader, put a magnet in front of it. I think it would either have a high reading, or you emf reader would break. It does have iron components, right? Isnt that how it measures it?
Ugly is only the master of paranormal web surfing. Im the master of literacy web surfing. Did you know Stephen King was an actor in some movies based on books he wrote, and his own screenplays?

Oh yeah, you'll see King pop up in tons of his movies. One he's the pizza guy....I forget the others. I'm not a king fan. His screen plays and short stories are actually better then his books I think! The Green Mile was an amazing movie and story! Plus he wrote Shawshank Redemption as well, another good story!

How can you not be a King fan?!? Everyone should love horror books. The key word there is should. Horror is an awesome genre. Why else would I be writing a horror book?(I will post the first chapter today, that is all you will see until I finish writing it and it is out on shelves, if it is published. Muahahaha) My favorite King book is Salem's Lot. You should read it. How did we go from EMF apps to King? Oh, yeah, right. Im not making much sense now, am I? Ive got to learn where the backspace key is.

That's ok, tangents are fun. Honestly, a lot of people assume with me that just because I'm into the paranormal stuff, that I must read all kinds of horror books and watch every horror movie that comes out, but I can't stand horror movies for the most part. I like spooky stuff like Tim Burton does. He always creates this awesome atmosphere in his movies. Neil Gaiman is a cool author because he reminds me of Tim Burton, only in book form.

Trusting Paranormal State is like trusting the government. They say one thing, (like de-bunk or boost the economy) and they do the other. (like assume and stick their noses in Wall St.)
