If any of you are into meditations, Christ Community, a very progressive and open minded church in Spring Lake, does crystal bowl meditations every new and full moon. It's awesome and any donation is welcomed. Very cool! We went to the last new moon one and it was relaxing and strange at the same time. The bowls create this sound that's hard to explain. Worth doing if you are into that sort of thing. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAH! That actually took me a few seconds.....I sat there looking at it going..."why would we smoke....ahhhhhh wait...i get it!" LOL! Oh winter has already dulled my wit. There's one happening this Tuesday, December 9, 7pm at Christ Community Church in Spring Lake, MI. I always fall asleep but the trick is to "fall awake" as all the meditation people like to say. Nevertheless...it's relaxing. |

can you explain more to me what this is? I've never heard of the mystics of crystals being intertwined with Christianity. It's interesting to me. |

Well the bowls have nothing to do with Christianity. Christ Community in Spring Lake is just a very open-minded church. I used to take Buddhist classes there a couple years ago. Crystal bowls came from singing bowls. Here's a wiki definition about singing bowls. Singing bowls (also known as Himalayan bowls, rin, medicine bowls, Tibetan bowls or suzu gongs in Japan) are a type of bell, specifically classified as a standing bell. Rather than hanging inverted or attached to a handle, standing bells sit with the bottom surface resting. The sides and rim of singing bowls vibrate to produce sound. Singing bowls were traditionally used throughout Asia as part of Bön and Tantric Buddhist sadhana. Today they are employed worldwide both within and without these spiritual traditions, for meditation, trance-induction, relaxation, healthcare, personal well-being and religious practice. Crystal bowls came about with the computer chip age. If I remember right, they grow silicon in crystal bowls, but they make beautiful sounds, just like the traditional metal singing bowls. So we all sit in a room and listen to this trippy sound and it's relaxing and everyone has a different experience. |
