I wasn't sure where I should post this, but I was wondering if anyone here is a vegan or a vegetarian?
I had been a vegetarian for roughly two years, but because of a huge lack of money I have had to start eating meat again, really the only addition was chicken and turkey but still.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on being a successful vegetarian on a small budget (or even better a vegan!)

Yes yes, it isn't related to the paranormal, but why not get off topic once in a while...

Just so you don't feel bad about it not being paranormal here is a link between the paranormal and being a vegetarian. It is believed by some to aid in the paranormal.

Good ole' Ugly :D

I've been thinking recently about eating less meat. I've been reading more and more about how bad the meat industry is on the environment, how bad the hormones are in the meat, yada yada. But being raised on meat, it's part of my DNA! I swear my meal doesn't feel complete unless I have some type of dead animal on my plate! But I'm in the same boat a little. It's very hard to find good, cheap vegetarian food. I've also been hearing about people feeling much better, their skin looking better, etc., on a vegetarian diet. Then again, I throw that all out the window when I smoke. Gotta kick that habit...but I'm pretty sure 95% of the ghost hunters I've met, smoke and are heavy coffee drinkers! LOL:) Every conference I've ever been too has half the attendees outside smoking and chatting away!

I don't think I could be vegan. I like eggs to much.

Yeah when I was a vegetarian I was smoking socially, and I have a huge addiction to coffee, I still do, shame on me. lol
But to me not only was it not that difficult being a vegetarian (apart from expenses) but I didn't necessarily feel any better or worse...but that is me, I think it is one of those "in the long run" things.
Oh, and I totally know how you feel about eggs, lol, that and I couldn't give up milk and cheese (though I only drink skim milk 98% of the time.)

Seeing this on here I thought it was going to say ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY TOFU. This should go in general discussion. I wont eat beef or tuna or spam or anything that monty python wrote a song about, but I love chicken, with spicy bbq sauce,

I was vegetarian for a few years and a vegan for like 7 months. I pretty much ate tofu all of the time. I mean, it's cheap and it goes a long way. One package lasts a couple days if you eat it for every meal and it's like $4 a package. And seriously, my favorite "fast food" was a couple slices of tofu on a sandwich with alfalfa sprouts and some avocado slices...yum :) There is also this awesome website vegweb.com that has a ton of vegetarian and vegan meals on it. It's pretty cool.

:D

I am thinking about trying to go Vegetarian for a while. I as watching Bill Mahr on Larry King the other night and he is a staunch believer in that our meat production is one of the main reasons for our pollution and bad health in general. King asks Bill about his opinion on A-Rod and his steroid use and Mahr stated, "We're all on steroids Larry! If you eat meat, you're on some form of growth hormone." And it is true. There's been studies showing that the hormones dumped in our meat, dairy, etc., are leading to early development in girls and other problems in people. It's disturbing really. Plus, the way that the animals are treated. A chicken is born and on your plate 6 weeks later!

I guess I've read that if you still want to eat meat, to look for grass fed or free range cattle...something like that.

Anything that is actually good for you is too expensive (like health care!)
You should read Animal Farm (and not the one by George Orwell lol) It has to do with what farms are doing to animals, and some of it is just sad. Reading it made me upset but I wasn't grossed out or anything. I wish I knew who the author was but I am sure you can find it at any library...

I work at a library so I"ll see if we have that one. I like that, anything is healthy, including health care. If that ain't the truth.
