Has anyone heard of Frank's Box before? If you haven't, read our little blurb on it. I have instructions on how to make a "Radio shack Hack" as it's called for 30 bucks and I'd like to try it. Rosemary Ellen Guiley owns two boxes built by Frank Sumption and we've seen both of them in action. Very strange and different. If you want to hear examples of a Frank's Box EVP, check out these radio show links. It's well worth the listen, plus they are our friend's shows so show some love:)

I have heard of it and know someone that has one. They like playing around with it but would never use it for evidence. I have listened to a lot of these on youtube and think its just bits and pieces of a radio station. Your mind is looking for something familiar to you. I will say I have played with evps and have had one that actually sound like a series of tones in with the evp. I know lots of people believe white noise generators helps also. So once again in the paranormal field some people say they work and others say no. I will wait untill I see more evidence one way or another. I haven't seen anyone use it with multiple radios and a mixer and a computer in person, so maybe that would help. If you search youtube there are lots of examples and also lots of people saying its garbage. I do know back in my cb days that when conditions were right, something that normally can talk 20-30 miles is able to talk half way around the world. So maybe they are heading in the right direction.

I will add one thing. The inventor of the infrared strobe light, says spirits move at a way faster pace then we do. If this is true wouldn't they also speak at a pace similar to the speed they travel. I once got in a discussion with someone that said never speed up or slow down an evp, that it would change what was said. I think if its not understandable then you should slow it to understand.

Good point, vocals could be affected if their movement is at a different rate of speed as well. I know I've slowed down EVP's before to try and make out what the words were.
There's a lot of debate about the Frank's Box. Many feel like you said, it's just bits of radio voices coming through and I do believe that's where the untrained ear gets things confused while using it. I was very skeptical at first towards it because I figured people were just matrixing the sounds based off the clips of broadcast they were hearing, but what we were told is that the voices appear on top of the regular radio voices. It's designed to capture "real time" communication, but so far, when Rosemary was using her box with us, she also recorded the session and then went back and listened for voices that appeared on top of everything. It's almost like the AM frequencies create a type of white noise for the voices to build on. On the links listed for the radio shows, if you skip towards the end of the Ghost Man and Demon hunter interview, Rosemary is playing her EVP's we got at Mansfield and at the Lincoln Theatre in Decator Illinois. It's very hard to hear some of it but there are a few that when you train your ear to listen, you do seem to hear voices come out that just don't seem to fit. I think this technology is refreshing because it's something different for people to experiment with but I think it has a long way to go yet.

Yes please do!!! I just finished reading my copy and it's a great little book on all the tech stuff out there investigators use. I still need to pick up the Radio Shack radio myself.

I just wanted to input that PRS (I know I refer to them a lot) used Frank's Box at an insane asylum turned into a drug treatment center.
There are videos available on Youtube of the episode (titled The Asylum...here, I'll just get a link for those who are curious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp00GgB0F-w )

In a more recent episode, PRS used a device where the spirits voice was going through in a robotic voice. It would only say one word at a time. I can't remember what the device was called.
I don't think it was Frank's Box because, if I remember correctly, Frank's Box can pull out a couple of words, or a phrase, at a time, right?
Hmm.
I should have paid better attention, lol

Frank's Box uses AM radio frequencies and scans the airwaves really fast, creating a sort of white noise that believed to give the dead something to speak over. I bet what you saw was something called an Ovelisk...that might not be quite right or spelled right but a friend of mine has one and it says certain words with a programmed voice based on something in the environment.

Hmm. Interesting.
I wonder how people invent these devices...haha!

I was talking to Third yesterday...He is waiting for the book, but I think he has a hunt he plans on using it to support possible evp....I think the idea is use it in the same spots your using the digital for recording evps, if your getting a evp, the box also should pick up on it, and that would collaborate each other... I hope to be on the hunt he does this on, because I would really like to see it in use.

I've heard about this for a while now.
I'm kind of curious. I've seen video and heard audio footage, but still wouldn't find it worth while to drop that much money on this.

Anyone know how quickly the FRANKS BOX scans the ac frequencies? I checked out a video of the radio shack mod, and it sounds like it scans a bit slower.
I could be totally wrong...but just curious if any of you would know.

I'd drop a few bucks to try out the FRANKS BOX. I'm probably gonna stop at a Radio Shack on my way home from work.

Not to thread jack, but has anyone seen this 'Ovilus' device?

Yeah, I haven't seen one yet either. My friend in Florida has one and they had some strange stuff happen with it. For example, when one person turned it one, it all of a sudden said, "Brother." Well, this man's brother had passed on. It started saying other things that seemed to correlate with him as well and they were just bewildered. It's supposed to say words based on EMF frequencies in the area or something wild like that. I haven't done any research at all on this one yet.

As for the Frank's Box, we've been around and used two of the originals made by Frank Sumption and owned by Rosemary Ellen Guiley and hers did scan the AM band very rapidly. We used her Radio Shack hack when we were at Mansfield Reformatory in Ohio and it was much slower, but she still had success with it.

Yeah, I stumbled across that 'Ovilus' thing while researching Franks Box...and the only thing it showed was that it was used on PS...it was interesting when they used it...but I think it's just the creepy robot voice that does it. lol. Seems neat.

Back to the Franks Box..it certainly seems interesting...I think I'd need to see it first hand, because all these videos of it dont seem to be doing it justice. It just looks and sounds like people yelling at static as commercials or programs come through...and not being there it's hard to hear exactly what they're hearing.

It's definitely hard to listen to at first, but what I've learned is you have to listen to voices that appear to come from on "top" of the radio voices. When doing a Frank's Box session, you pretty much record with a mini recorder just like you would an EVP session and there does seem to be some extra voices coming in. It's strange technology but fascinating. The paranormal has needed something new to come along and I think it has in this Frank's Box. Who knows how far it will go.

I wonder if anyone is working on a filter to scan out the other voices that come through?

I am not sure if its possible, but what about trying to train your voice recognition software to work with this. If you run a franks box attached with your computer you may be able to read words your not able to hear. It would probably take some tweaking and maybe even a noise filter or two. Also given the mistakes voice recognition software makes now you couldn't use it as concrete evidence.
Just a thought

I like the idea, as I am always trying new things out.....I might look into that
