I don't understand atheists. Seriously. I'm not trash talking. How could someone believe that nobody created space, earth, time.... Sometimes I want to ask one of them "Then how did all of this get here???" Maybe this is more of a vent but I cannot understand how we can have such miracles as humans, and stars, and galaxy's and a lot of other amazing things and some people think that there is no spiritual side to it.

Atheism is not realistic.

I think the Christian faith itself turns people into atheists more than the idea that some
powerful being created the Universe.

Good point Steve. I've met a lot of people that got so fed up with religion, or namely Christianity, that they turned the total opposite and went Atheist. A lot of Scientists are atheists because they don't believe there's some "supreme creator." Everything is by the books and happens because of some type of process. But from being in the paranormal for sometime now, I know not everything happens "by the books."

Speaking of Christianity gone wrong, I had actually gone atheist for awhile because I didn't like the church and I felt a lot of the things that were said were contradictory. Not to say I am against Christians or their faith, but I found I couldn't follow it, instead for awhile I became atheist until I could find something else that made more sense. I am still looking for a religion or maybe I don't need one because I still believe in an afterlife and that somehow we had to have gotten here even if there was a big bang. And just to comment on the not understanding the atheism thing, from texts that I have read that were on an atheistic view all seemed to revolve around pure science and trying to figure everything out in a logical manor without leaving any mystery (it is in the the human nature to want to know everything.) I think finding a good balance between logics and imagination is perfectly healthy.

I know how you fell Atemis. I believe in all. If you think about how we evolvolved and the religious backings you find yourself in the middle. There you might find the inner peace that you are looking for. Too bad some people out there just don't understand. That is why I call them the closed minded.

hehe. fun post.

I don't consider myself an atheist...but I sure love the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster :)

I'm just not fond of organized religion.
I believe faith in SOMETHING...ANYTHING...is very important in an individuals life.

If we're talking christianity specifically...I see the Bible as a textbook...a guideline of right and wrong, not a collection of factual historical events. One could have learned the similar lessons of good and bad while reading the Bearnstein Bears as a child...it's silly people don't pray to talking bears too! ;p

lol

I agree with you about the Bible, I think there are too many who dedicate their lives to taking everything in the Bible as being literal (besides it was written by man and re translated over and over throughout time)

OH man, that whole translation thing really pisses me off when people try taking everything in that book "literally!" I guarantee you we could make up our own religion and in 100 years, people would be taking our words "literally" and preaching the power of the Berenstien Bears.

Are you guys familiar w/ the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

Google it. It's hilarious how it began :)

I'm sure we could start a Church of MO (michigans otherside)...write a comic book style story of each of us saving lives and battling evil...give it a few years...and whatever we write down now will be taken as actual fact in the future! :)
I'm in for this. lol.

Should I ............... Ummmmmmmm........... Really thinking about this.................. eny meeny miney mo......... Well I probably shouldn't ............. But............... Ok .............. I see so many people that turn to religion as a crutch. (ok ok I know that they say some people turn to religion only when they reach the bottom) but some of the people I have seen turn extremely religious actually are scary. People that destroyed their minds with drugs and alcohol are suddenly pushing religion on others and are pushing people away from it. I know some families that everything they do is for the church, but there lives are really messed up with domestic violence, devil worship from their children. I read about all these teens that go to church camp for a week every summer and come back and say their lives have changed and its amazing. They love god, then a week later they are back to where they were before they went. I use to live by a catholic church, some of the people there on Sunday morning were the same people buzzed out of there minds the night before. I see some people who go to show off a new car or new clothes. You don't need church to live a good life. I don't drink, smoke, I help out less fortunate families. I don't go to church. I did when I was younger and couldn't believe what they were telling people. A woman was crying and told the people her husband was cheating on her, She was told to let him, even encourage him, but just pray for him and he will come back to her. Well that was the last time i was at a Sunday service. I prefer instead to go into the woods, or some place away from people and enjoy nature. Its here I can recharge myself. I think the world has evolved and so religion ( or the belief of a source of power) need to evolve to. What was translated in the bible was meant for back then, there should be a modern way for people to find inner peace. So you aspiring writers get busy.

This is just my opinion and not meant to offend anyone.

Oh I'll have to Google that one. And good post Ugly. It's so true. You don't need a church to do good things and be a good person. And yes, religion needs to evolve. There was a book written a while ago, (I never read it, but the title always stuck with me), it was called, "Why Christianity Must Change Or Die" and it was written by an archbishop or some high up. But it's true. Religion needs to change as the people change and it doesn't! I've always felt religion has held a lot of people back in some aspects. Like your example of the cheating husband and them telling her to just pray. That's a load of BS. That's when you become proactive with your life and leave that ass! No amount of prayer is going to bring him back. Now I know there's always the other side of the coin. I had a friend whose dad cheated on their mom, and their faith kept them together and they worked through it and that's fine. But it probably wasn't just prayer that held them together. It was talking things out like adults and making it work.
Oh I could just rant on and on and on.

lol. love the intro to that Ugly.

I couldn't agree more. I think this is why I'm so hooked to this site now :) Everyone seems very realistic.

and I agree...certainly not all, but a solid portion of the people that push religion are people recovering from something bad in their life (drugs, alcohol, drama in general)(the 'Found Again' folks), and they've lost faith in themselves so they focus their faith on something else to stay strong.

I respect that...but in some cases it's not good, and flat out unsafe. When somebody takes accountability out of their own hands, thats when we get news storys (like in that other thread on here) about people blaming their actions on 'higher powers'.

To play the devil's advocate (no pun intended)

What about those who have had immense faith in a religion and...miracles...have happened?

What is the opinion on that?

And then you always hear about false miracles just because someone wants control over peoples lives and be worshiped like a god.

I just scratch my head at people when it comes to religion or non-religion. I am I guess a "Christian", but not a bible-thumping kind. I actually do not get strict bible thumper's. Their rage at other religions or atheism goes against everything the bible stands for. They don't make sense.

I also don't get how people cant believe that there is something bigger then us. Science can only take you so far. I said this before, but if the earth was created by the "big bang" that what created the materials that caused the big bang? You see what I mean? What created "matter", what created air what created everything??

It had to be something powerful.

I lean towards the Christian God because it has the best "ring of truth" to it I guess I can say. I just believe in that the most. I feel it in my gut more then anything.

but I am not into organized religion. I have to feel it, not just "believe" it. I don't want a religion, I want a relationship with my God.

I'm still feeling out where I stand spiritually though. I have been called a Christian witch (which by the way I have no idea what that is) but my friend said it was because I felt a strong connection to the earth, and I believed that the earth had healing powers. She said I had a lot of witch like qualities but I believed in the one God.

She is a witch, so maybe she was just trying to identify with me, because I do not practice witchcraft and I may be wrong but I thought you had to practice with craft to be considered a witch.

ahh, I could go on and on about how confusing religion is to me.

I think that atheism is not realistic though. To "x" out the possibility that there is something bigger then us, when we live in a world that is beyond our comprehension is not to smart, but to just believe in one religion or one thing just because you were told is also not to smart either.

We all have different idea's though, and will continue to find our own way. Which is exactly how it should be.

Someone did that, it's called Scientology. Sorry if I offend anyone who follows it, but it's weird.

It was created by Sci-Fi author L. Ron Hubbard... and it's very very odd, and definitely Sci-Fi.

I thought it was about Science but it isn't. It's about Lord Xenu casting aliens in a volcano and those aliens came out as "humans" and that is who we descend from....and a bunch of other things as well.

This religion was developed only in 1952.

People actually follow it to, we all know Tom Cruise does.

Basically this person made up this religion, and of course you have people who follow it.

With all religions you will get the nut cases who go over board. Most religions got started by someone taking something from religion and turning it to suit them and then come the followers.
